An application (as used in most contexts in this wiki) is computer software—specifically, for a mobile device. An application may display many kinds of information. An application (or "app" for short) may access information from the Internet, allowing information to be streamed in nearly real-time. An example of an application (on a personal computer) is the browser this webpage is on (such as Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari or Firefox.)

An application can only have as much or as little capability as the mobile device the app is running on, and by what operating system it was created with. An application using Wi-Fi (connected to the Internet) could display a webpage, download files (such as songs, videos, pictures, or text documents), give weather updates, make phone calls, play games, connect to chatrooms and send email, just to name a few.
